House Deputy Minority Leader and Basilan lone district Rep. Mujiv Hataman wants to spread a message of "peace and justice" on the occasion of Eid’l Fitr. "I join our Muslim brothers and sisters in celebrating Eid'l Fitr, the day that marks the end of our month-long fast during the holiest month of Ramadan, one of the five pillars of our Islamic faith," Hataman said in a statement Saturday, April 22. "Eid’l Fitr is the culmination of a month of self-restraint and sacrifice, it is a day for celebration. During this time, we allow ourselves to have more patience and humility, to epitomize the virtue of charity and generosity toward others," he noted. "Sa panahon ding ito hangad natin ang pagpapalaganap ng kapayapaan at katarungan sa ating mga tahanan at komunidad, sa gitna ng napakaraming insidente ng karahasan na ating nasaksihan nitong mga nakaraang araw (It is also our desire in this occasion to spread peace and justice in our homes and communities amid the many incidents of violence that we've witnessed these past few days)," the former governor of the defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) further said. Hataman added: "We should continue letting go of all the anger and hate, and embrace peace and justice as a way of life for all of us." Ramadan is a period of fasting and spiritual growth for Muslims. "May we all remember what we learned and gained this Ramadan: all the virtues of being better Muslims, better individuals, and better Filipino citizens.Eid Mubarak!" he said.
