Village chief shot dead in Ilocos Sur

SANTA LUCIA, Ilocos Sur â€“ A barangay chairman was killed while his wife was wounded in a gun attack before midnight on Thursday, April 20, in Barangay Conconig East here. Police identified the fatality as Romeo Rabang Sr., 63, barangay captain of Barangay Conconig East. Investigation said Rabang and his wife, Veronica, 63, were onboard a motorcycle traversing the barangay road at about 11:50 p.m. when the victim was shot by an unidentified assailant. The couple crashed and Veronica sought the help of their neighbors who took them to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital in this town where the fatality was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. Veronica, who sustained a bullet wound in the left arm, is undergoing treatment at the same hospital. Witnesses said the suspect fled on board a motorcycle. Police are thoroughly investigating the incident.
