While there has been no statement yet from the NPA claiming the incident, policemen believed that the death of Soledad was insurgency-related. Police Lt. Col. Reynante Jomocan, Himamaylan police chief, said that a witness has identified an active NPA rebel as the alleged gunman in the incident. Jomocan said the victim was walking with his family at the plaza during a fiesta when the suspect approached and shot him in the head and back. Police recovered from the crime scene two fired bullets of 9mm caliber and .45 caliber firearms. Based on police investigation, Jomocan said there were many unidentified persons, who served as look-out or back-up of the gunman. Jomocan said that Soledad started receiving threats when he surrendered to the authorities in June 2022. He believed that the victim’s former comrades might have targeted him for leaving the armed struggle.
