ILOILO CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd)-Region 6 assured the safety of student-athletes competing in the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet amid the summer heat and the increasing number of Covid-19 cases.

DepEd-6 Director Ramir B. Uytico said protocols are in place for the 4,182 student-athletes participating in the WVRAA from April 26 to 30 in Aklan province. Uytico lauded the DepEd-Aklan Schools Division Office for the preparatory works as the host of the regional games that will be held at the Aklan Sports Complex in Makato town. To avoid any major health incidents, Uytico said that student-athletes underwent medical evaluation to be able to join. Uytico also said that there is a medical team on standby and that DepEd has coordinated with hospitals in Kalibo town in case of a major emergency. As for Covid-19 protocols, DepEd-6 is pushing for the voluntary use of face masks, especially in enclosed spaces.
