Boobay suffered silent seizure, says Boy Abunda

At a glance

  • US researchers reported that a simple, silent seizure causes a vacant stare, which may be mistaken for a brief lapse in attention.

  • It usually lasts about 10 seconds, but it can last up to 30 seconds. Following the seizure, there is no confusion, headache, or drowsiness.

Boobay suffered a silent seizure during a live television interview with award-winning host Boy Abunda on Thursday, April 20.

The confirmation came during Abunda's popular talk show on GMA Network on April 21.

According to Abunda, Boobay (Norman Balbuena in real life) is fine now after the video clip showing his silent seizure went viral.

Recaling the comedian's guest appearance on his show last Thursday, Abunda said: "He started to be quiet. Akala ko, iiyak. Akala ko he was getting emotional because he was remembering how he started.

"So pinapanood ko lang siya. After a few seconds, instinct eh. Something is wrong. Kaya sabi ko are you okay? Siguro mga dalawa o tatlong beses? I said, 'are you okay?'

"Nilapitan ko na kasi I instinctively felt that something was wrong. Niyakap ko. So we took a break. Less than six minutes.

"Tumawag na kami ng doctor, nurse. After two to three minutes, he was back. He was okay. At doon nalaman ko yung kwento na nangyari na pala ito.

"Ang tawag daw ng nangyari sa kanya ay silent seizure. He is used to this. Ang sabi raw ng kanyang doctor, after he had a stroke in 2016, na magkakaroon ka ng silent or mild seizures. Pero ang gagawin mo lang ay kumalma ka and then be still. After a while, babalik ka rin.

"In all the years that I had been on television, that was the first time na may nangyaring ganun. So Boobay if you're watching, please take care of your health."
