Calling access to potable water a basic human right, Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co has overseen the expansion of the group's solar-powered water supply system program to more areas in the region.

"I believe that access to clean water is a basic human right that should be available to every citizen, regardless of their social status or economic background," said Co, chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, in a statement.

"That is why we at Ako Bicol Party-list are committed to bringing aid and assistance to our fellow Bicolanos through our solar-powered water supply system program," said the second-term solon.

The program provides a sustainable and cost-effective solution to address the water scarcity issue in the Bicol region. By harnessing the power of solar energy, the system can pump and purify water from underground sources, ensuring a reliable and continuous supply of clean water to communities.

Apart from the ongoing project in Barangay Añog, Juban, Sorsogon, the party-list has also extended aid to two barangays and a school in Tiwi, Albay.

The construction progress of the solar-powered systems in Barangay Coro-Coro, Libjo, and Tiwi Central School was recently inspected to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Meanwhile, the Taysan Elementary School in Taysan, Legazpi City, and Barangay Tumpa in Camalig, Albay, have had their Ako Bicol Party-list level II solar powered water supply systems inaugurated.

These projects were made possible through the partnership of Co and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The solar-powered system has lower operating costs and minimal environmental impact compared to traditional diesel-powered pumps. The program is not only meant to address the immediate water needs of communities but also to contribute to the long-term sustainability of the region's water resources.
