BI nabs South Korean 'swindler'

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported the arrest in Cagayan de Oro City of a South Korean national wanted by authorities in Seoul for allegedly swindling a compatriot in a fraudulent sale transaction.

(Stock photo via Manila Bulletin) Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Park Sang Hyun, 63, was arrested on April 19 by operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU). The BI chief said the arresting agents were armed with a warrant of deportation which he issued against the Korean in November last year. “He will be deported as soon we have obtained the required clearances for his departure," Tansingco added. BI-FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Park was charged with fraud before a district court in Inchoen for allegedly defrauding another Korean in 2017 of more than US$61,000. Park was accused of reneging on his promise to deliver to the victim second-hand clothes that the latter intended to resell online. Sy said Park is an undocumented alien as a result of the cancellation of his passport by his government. Park will be detained at the BI’s facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting his deportation to Korea.
