The non-commissioned nationwide survey held from Dec. 10 until Dec. 14, 2022 found that 89 percent of Filipinos are satisfied with how democracy works. This figure is relatively higher compared to the 78 percent rating that the same concern received in April 2021 and the 86 percent rating it received in September 2016.
“Satisfaction with the way democracy works used to range from 29 percent to 70 percent from November 1991 to March 2010, and then it has ranged from 59 percent to 89 percent since June 2010,” said SWS.
In the same poll results, the research institution also bared that 60 percent of Filipinos prefer democracy to any other form of government.
“The December 2022 survey also found 60 percent saying democracy is always preferable to any other kind of government, compared to 26 percent saying under some circumstances an authoritarian government can be preferable and 15 percent saying it does not matter whether we have democratic or a non-democratic regime,” said SWS.
According to SWS, the preference for democracy has been above 50 percent since June 2015.
The nationwide poll covered 1,200 Filipino respondents of 18 years and above, with at least 300 participants each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Its sampling error margins were ±2.8 for national percentages and ±5.7 each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
