The two new "Alagang Tingog Centers"--a social service center brainchild of Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez and her husband, House Speaker and Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez--recently opened its doors in Davao del Norte. Inaugurated on Wednesday, April 19 were Alagang Tingog Centers in the Island Garden City of Samal, Panabo City and Carmen town. The House couple noted that local residents usually travel as far as to the cities of Davao or Tagum just to get public aid or benefits. “I hope that this will provide more fruitful and meaningful partnership between Tingog Party-list and the wonderful people of Davao del Norte," Rep. Romualdez, the chairperson of the House Committee on Accounts, said about the opening of the centers. "Makakaasa po kayo na lalo naming pag-iibayuhin ang paghahandog ng serbisyo publiko lalo na sa mga lugar na hindi naaabot ng pamahalaan (You can expect us to further step up the delivery of public service especially to areas not easily reached by government),” she added. Speaker Romualdez expressed similar hope with the inauguration of the centers. “We hope and pray that this Alagang Tingog Center can bring government services closer to the people, that the people of Davao del Norte will not be missing out on what they are entitled to just because of geographical barriers,” the Speaker said. Coinciding with the inauguration was the distribution of financial assistance to 1,000 people under the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program (AICS). Each beneficiary received P2,000.
