LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Lucena District Office reported on Wednesday, April 19, the confiscation of P400,000 worth of illegally cut logs loaded in a 12-wheeler truck and the arrest of four persons in Pagbilao town.
Report identified the arrested as Mavie Jusayan Catarus-Escober, Juanito Lara Jr., Julius Abtado Merencillo, and Oeth Doinog.

According to NBI Lucena District Office head Bernard De La Cruz, the 12-wheeler truck was intercepted at Maharlika highway, Barangay Malicboy, Pagbilao at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 16. The truck was loaded with 7,000 board feet flitches of ‘lauan’ with an estimated price of P423,000. The occupants of the said truck failed to show documents that would make their transport of the said logs legal. The said forest products came from Calbayog City, Samar and were to be transported to Malvar in Batangas, the NBI said. The confiscated logs are now in the custody of the Community Environment Natural Resources Office-Department of Environment Natural Resources Tayabas office. The suspects are now facing criminal charges in violation of Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines and Section 77 of Presidential Decree No. 705 (as amended by Republic Act No. 7161) in the Provincial Prosecutors Office in Lucena City.
