Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr. appeared to nearly lose his composure during his interview on ANC Headstart Thursday morning, April 20 when host Karen Davilla asked him why he hasn't "behaved the way a lawmaker should". Davila asked this in connection with the March 4 assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, where Teves is the alleged mastermind. Teves is currently out of the country and has ignored calls from the House leadership, and even President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., for him to come home and face the allegations. He said he fears for his life. "Why didn't you behave the way a lawmaker should? Sorry sir. You should have shown up in Congress; reported to the Speaker, right? Because as you claimed, you're innocent--showed up to the Speaker, gone to work the way an innocent congressman would," Davila told Teves in the splitscreen interview. "Ganito ma'am, pwede ko ulitin? Ano bang mahirap intindihin sa 'papatayin ka'?! Ano bang mahirap intindihin doon? Naiiyak na ako! Ano bang mahirap intindihin sa 'papatayin ka'?! (It's like this ma'am, can I repeat it? What's so difficult to understand in 'you will get killed'?! What's so difficult to understand about that? I'm about to cry!)" he answered, his face looking like he took a shot of vinegar. Davila asked who he thought was planning to have him killed. "Ma'am, mala-libel kasi ako kung sasabihin ko dito eh (Ma'am, I'll get sued for libel if I say it here)," the suspended congressman said. When Davila said Teves didn't have to mention any names, the latter obliged and replied, "Opisyal ng gobyerno, dalawa sila. Mataas na opisyal ma'am (Officials of government, two of them. They're high-ranking officials, ma'am). Referring to one of them, Teves said: Ang instruction niya ma'am, i-raid yung bahay ko, taniman. Sabay may instruction pa latest, huli ko nang nalaman na ang instruction pala barilin ako direcho dun sa bahay ko, sabihin lang lumaban ako (The instruction was to raid my house, plant evidence. The latest, which I heard belatedly, was to shoot me directly at my house, and just say that I resisted)."
