43℃ heat index recorded in Dagupan, Pasay cities on April 20 — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) observed the highest heat index on Thursday, April 20 in Dagupan City in Pangasinan and Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City.
The heat index in these areas reached 43 degrees Celsius (℃) on Thursday afternoon.
According to PAGASA, heat indices between 42°C and 51°C carry impending “danger” as “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.”
The heat indices recorded in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte; Masbate City, Masbate; and Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur all reached 42°C, also under the danger classification.

PAGASA defines the heat index as the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. The highest observed heat index since March 1, 2023, was 47°C in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on March 25. In the next 24 hours, the easterlies or the warm air coming from the Pacific Ocean will continue to be the dominant weather system in the country. PAGASA said partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms will prevail over the country. Although the hot and humid weather is expected to persist, PAGASA advised the public to remain vigilant as there can be flooding or landslides during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusts of wind, and sometimes hail.
