Thousands of Bulakenyos flock to churches on Palm Sunday
Thousands of Bulakenyos flocked to Catholic churches in three cities and 21 municipalities in the province of Bulacan in observance of Palm Sunday, April 2, the first day of the Holy Week.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer-in-charge Ret. Police Col. Manuel M. Lukban Jr. said Palm Sunday is one of the most significant celebrations of the faith wherein thousands of devotees gathered at different Catholic churches in the country waving palm fronds to be blessed by a priest holding Holy Mass.
At the Malolos Cathedral Minore Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Concepcion, Barasoain Church, and Santisima Trinidad in the City of Malolos, devotees laid down rugs at the doorways of as an image of Jesus Christ was brought inside the churches rugs while children dressed as angels showered flowers on the floor reenacting Christ's entry to Jerusalem.
Lukban said that as the Provincial Government of Bulacan prepares for the onset of Holy Week, the maneuver platoons of the Bulacan Philippine National Police-Provincial Mobile Force Company and emergency rescue units from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) will be deployed in different crowd-drawing Lenten sites.
Bulacan Governor Daniel R. Fernando and Bulacan Police Director Col. Relly B. Arnedo also held a briefing for thier personnel who will be deployed to different public assistance centers in key areas in the province.
Fernando said that devotees are expected to come in droves to witness different age-old Lenten traditions like the man-made Golgotha in Barangay Kapitangan, Paombong where faith healers are being crucified in a reenactment of the passion of Jesus Christ.
Devotees are also expected to visit the Grotto Shrine in San Jose del Monte City; the Divine Mercy Shrine in Marilao; the station of the cross at the Banal na Bundok in San Miguel, and other areas.
The Bulacan governor said they want to ensure that the people will be safe on their pilgrimage.
"Bulacan has many Lenten traditions where people can reflect and pray,” he said.
Fernando said ambulances with paramedics are now also deployed in vital areas in the different places of the province as part of the emergency response teams.
He said the public can also call 044-791-0566 for immediate assistance and also called on the public to observe safety measures in protecting their homes.
