Mayor Joy commends QC cops for lower crime rate in 2023
Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has commended the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) after it reported a decrease in crime incidents that occurred in the city from January to March 2023.
The city government said on Sunday, April 2, that the city police force presented the number of cases of eight index crimes (murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicle and motorcycle) recorded in the city for the first three months of the year to Belmonte and the QC Peace and Order Council along with the city law and order cluster.
The QCPD said it listed 160 cases of the eight index crimes in January; 161 in February; and 139 incidents in March.
It also reported a Crime Solution Efficiency (percentage of solved cases out of the total number of crime incidents reported to the law enforcement agency) of 93 percent in January, 93.7 percent in February, and 90.65 percent in March, with an average of 92.73 percent for the first quarter of 2023.
“This shows an increase in the percentage of solved cases out of the total cases reported to QCPD,” the local government said.
According to the police, the decrease in the crime rate may be attributed to the full utilization of QCitizen Helpline 122, which provides assistance to emergencies, complaints, and feedback from its callers; the speed and efficiency of the three-minute police response time through the Integrated Command and Control Center (IC3); continuous conduct of simulation exercises; and relentless monitoring of identified crime-prone areas in the city.
“We commend the QCPD for its quick response that resulted in a significant decrease of crime in our city. Rest assured that the city government will continue to work hand in hand with law enforcers to ensure the safety and security of our QCitizens and the community,” Belmonte said.
The mayor encouraged the city residents to continue using the QC Helpline 122 in reporting crime incidents to the police.
Belmonte also called on barangay leaders to remain vigilant and conduct patrols in different places in the city (including crowded areas) day and night to beef up the efforts of the QCPD.
QCPD Director Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III said that the residents can count on the city police force that is always ready to respond to any incidents with the goal to achieve a crime-free Quezon City.
