Brig. Gen. Joel Doria, director of the Police Regional Office 4B, ordered all chiefs of police and unit commanders to intensify police visibility in tourist spots and other places of convergence in Mimaropa in anticipation of the influx of tourists and returning residents during the long Lenten break.
Mimaropa stands for Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan and the Mindoro Island, through Puerto Galera, and Palawan are two of the most go-to tourist areas in the country.
“I have ordered all PNP unit commanders in the region to employ security measures and secure vital installations, tourist destinations, transportation hubs, churches and places of pilgrimage for the safety of the public and ensure the peaceful observance of the Holy Week,” said Doria.
Doria said Police Assistance Desks will be in place along with the deployment of more than a thousand police personnel in various strategic areas region-wide to extend services and better response to the public.
The implementation of the security measures includes the vicinity of the Port of Calapan which now houses the biggest port passenger terminal buildings in the country. The Port of the Calapan is one of the busiest ports in the country.
So far, Doria said they have not monitored any threats in any part of the region.
He, however, urged the public to cooperate with authorities in its efforts towards a peaceful observance of the Lenten season.
“We would like to remind the public to refrain from posting their itineraries on social media so that the criminals will never have the opportunity to commit crimes during their travel or vacation where their homes are left unattended. They can also ask force multipliers in our barangay (village) to check their house from time to time,”said Doria.
“They should also make sure that all electrical appliances are unplugged to prevent fires while they are out of town during the observance of Holy Week,” he added.
Doria likewise urged the motorists traveling to the provinces to observe safety and security tips as well as observe safety measures on the road.
“While the PNP will be deployed in every road to provide maximum visibility and efficient response, it is better for the motorists who will be traveling with the members of their family to plan their movement to prevent untoward incidents such as accidents on the road and other forms of inconveniences while traveling,” he said.
