Apple has been adding more functionalities to the way their operating systems handle passwords. There is now a built-in password manager. which primarily works with Safari. Here is a list of what I think would make this feature better:
Make it a full application
Currently, you need to dig up this feature in System Settings when you want to look-up a certain account or manage an already existing one. I use a Shortcut provided by @[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) just to be able to launch directly to the password manager.
Having a separate application definitely will make users more aware of this functionality - discoverability is key here. This is top priority. Wishing that this will be on iOS 17.
Password sharing
Having a set of passwords configured to be shared with others is also top priority. Heck, even if this is restricted to those in your Family Sharing circle. Apple already provides sharing via AirDrop (see "[https://support.apple.com/en-ph/guide/iphone/iph0dd1796bb/ios](https://support.apple.com/en-ph/guide/iphone/iph0dd1796bb/ios)"), looks like this shouldn't be that complicated to extend, right?
Attachments and non-login entries
Being able to save \*any\* type of information, including PDFs, SSH keys, software licenses, etc., will be great. I know that Notes app already provides this feature, albeit encrypted, too, but having it in a single application is a no-brainer.
PGP/GnuPG keystore
I wish that there is a way to add your GnuPG/PGP keys and integrate it with Mail.app across all platforms. Mail supports S/MIME, but it would be great if Password app can manage your keys, too.
SSH keystore
1Password has this functionality now - when I am on Terminal.app, I can ssh to a server, 1Password prompts for my authentication and automagically selects the proper key. Awesome feature specially for CLI ninjas!
There isn't much needed to make Apple's password manager into a full application. I wish that Apple will preview these new functions this June, at WWDC.
