Region 1 Athletic Association featuring 7,431 athletes, coaches, officials launched
SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan – More than 7,000 athletes, coaches, and officials are expected to converge here for the Region 1 Athletic Association meet which this city is hosting from May 14 to May 19.
Dr. Shiela Marie Primicias, officer-in-charge, School Division Superintendent (SDS) San Carlos, said everything is ready for the duration of the week-long meet.
Primicias thanked the local government unit of San Carlos led by Mayor Julier Resuello for its unwavering support and commitment for the hosting of the regional meet featuring various sports disciplines.
She said this year’s R1AA is something to look forward to, describing it as "magical," as the meet is adopting a children-focused theme that combines fun, excitement, and lots of surprises.
The R1AA, one of the 17 regions taking part in the annual Palarong Pambansa, was formally launched during a press conference also attended by School Division officials at the Amphitheater Building of the Schools Division Office on Roxas Blvd. in San Carlos City.
Among the sports to be contested over five days are archery, arnis, badminton, baseball, billiards, boxing, chess, dance sports, football, gymnastics, and swimming.
Most of the events are to be contested in San Carlos City, although other events will be held in Lingayen and Dagupan City.
The delegates representing Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, and Pangasinan will start arriving on May 13 and will be directly led to the assigned billeting schools.
The meet opens on March 14 with a traditional march-past and the opening ceremony. A search for Mr. and Miss R1AA Meet 2023 will also be held on the same day.
Actual hostilities will commence on May 15 in what Primicias described as a "magical day for superheroes/athletes."
