Based on a report from the Negros Oriental police, Pasinabo was in a dance hall during a fiesta in Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City when two of four unidentified armed persons approached and shot him. The perpetrators then introduced themselves as NPA rebels and told everyone to drop on the ground. However, instead of obeying, Tubias tried to talk to the armed men and told them who Pasinabo was. This time, the two other perpetrators brought Tubias to a dimly-lit portion and shot him, according to the police. Police recovered from the crime scene two fired bullets of a .45 caliber pistol while other pieces of evidence such as a steel magazine of a .45 caliber pistol loaded with four live ammunition and 22 fired bullets of the firearm. The LPC-NPA said that the victims were legitimate military targets of the group as they were alleged intelligence assets of the government forces. The rebel group accused the two victims of threatening some residents and urging them to surrender to the authorities. They also said that this is their response to the military operations in central Negros. A total of 10 insurgency-related incidents have been reported from Jan. 14 to April 18, 2023, victimizing 11 individuals. Of the number, four incidents happened in the town of Moises Padilla, one in La Castellana town, and another in Ilog town, all in Negros Occidental, while one incident each happened in Vallehermoso town and Canlaon City, and two incidents in Guihulngan City, all in Negros Oriental. The Army 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde) has condemned the recent series of killings perpetrated by the NPA in Negros Island. 1st Lt. Raymart Africa, acting civil military operations officer of 303rd IBde, said they have deployed military troops to conduct security patrols and operations in the affected areas to prevent the same from happening.
