BACOLOD CITY – The New People’s Army (NPA) has claimed the killing of a 50-year-old man in Negros Oriental on Saturday, April 15.
The Leonardo Panaligan Command (LPC)-Central Negros Guerrilla Front said it killed George Javier in Sitio Guibawan, Barangay Bucalan, Canlaon City for being a “military asset.”
Police said the victim was shot by four unidentified armed men.
Javier was gunned down four days after the NPA also claimed the death of 33-year-old Armando Babor in Barangay Mani-ak, Guihulngan City on April 11.
Ka JB Regalado, spokesperson of the LPC-NPA, said that Javier was a confidential agent of the Army based on the identification card recovered from him.
Regalado said the victim was also a member of the Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN) in the area that regularly reports to the police and the Army detachment in the barangay.
Aside from these two incidents, the rebel group also owned up another killing, in Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on April 9.
