ICYDK: Louis Vuitton’s Makati City store just got a Yayoi Kusama makeover

The French luxury brand’s boutique in the Philippines features the Japanese artist’s signature pumpkin motif

Earlier this year, Louis Vuitton invited shoppers from all over to a wonderland filled with the imaginative works of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama through its stores. From installing a robotic structure of the Japanese artist in its New York store to putting her signature polkas on its Tokyo and Paris boutiques, the French luxury label has turned its spaces into true Instagram destinations. Now, Filipino shoppers can experience something similar as the brand dresses its store in the Philippines with Kusama's iconic art.

Louis Vuitton revamps its store in Greenbelt 3, Makati City with Kusama’s iconic pumpkin motif.  The artist uses the gourds as a subject of her art due to their "charming and winsome form, their generous pretentiousness, and solid spiritual base," as per The Museum of Modern Art. Walking along the facade of the mall and people can see the store with whimsical pumpkins. The fantasy continues inside as the store is decorated its space with life-sized structures of graphic pumpkins.

Last January, Louis Vuitton released the first drop of its collaboration collection with Kusama, dubbed “Creating Infinity,” featuring the brand's classic bag style covered with polka dots. Its second drop, unveiled last March, showcased the rest of the collection with menswear and womenswear pieces imbued with playful pumpkin designs.

This is not the first time Louis Vuitton joined forces with Kusama. In 2012, the artist "appropriated Louis Vuitton’s timeless trunk, hand-painting it with her emblematic polka dots," according to LVMH, the French luxury goods conglomerate leading Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Tiffany & Co., among others.
