CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Two New People’s Army rebels surrendered to the police in Agusan del Sur on Monday, April 17.
Disappointment and deprivation of basic needs forced “Wing-Wing,” 24, team leader, Baking, Squad 3, Platoon Sagay; and “Minejoy,” 28, medic under Kaloy, Squad 3, Platoon Banglas, both members of Sub-Regional Committee 3 (SRC 3) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC), to return to the fold of the law.
Concerted efforts and negotiations initiated by the field units of the Police Regional Office-13 enlightened them to surrender.
Their identities were temporarily withheld for their safety.
They surrendered to the 1st Agusan del Sur Provincial Mobile Force Company and turned over one homemade shotgun and one .38 caliber revolver with defaced serial number. These were presented to the command group of the unit.
PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II lauded the surrenderers for their bravery to renounce their loyalty to NPA and choose to live a peaceful life with their families.
“We welcome them as new peace-loving members of the community,” Labra said.
“We also urge the remaining rebels who are still hiding and running in the hinterlands of the Caraga region to go down and lay down their arms before it's too late,” he added.
Labra assured the surrenderees of livelihood and other opportunities from the government under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program for rebel returnees.
