The program was formally activated at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) – Obrero Campus in Davao City. This initiative, according to DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy, would help students achieve academic excellence. “Many of our learners will finally gain better access to learning materials in cyberspace. [This] will also contribute to improving the quality of education by providing more online access to libraries, collaborative efforts in communicating with peers and experts from all over the world, and the utilization of digital tools in enhancing our learning experience,” said Uy. As part of the official launch, two free Wi-Fi hotspots were installed at USeP Obrero Campus. Meanwhile, the government agency also disclosed its goal to install 22 additional free Wi-Fi sites in state universities and colleges across the region. DICT’S Broadband ng Masa program seeks to provide free and reliable internet connection for the benefit of Filipinos, especially those living in geographically-disadvantaged areas. Earlier in March, the program was also launched in the Province of Antique.
