72 additional cops deployed to boost security in Calbayog
TACLOBAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-8 deployed on Wednesday, April 19, 72 additional policemen to boost security in Calbayog City, Samar following an ambush in which four persons were killed and three others wounded on April 14 in Barangay Victory.

Sixteen are from the Ormoc City Police Office; 23 from the Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office; one from the Biliran Police Provincial Office; one team from the 804th Manuever Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 8; and one team each from the 1st and 2nd Samar Police Manuever Force Companies. Police Col. Owen Andarino, acting Deputy Regional Director for Administration, expressed confidence that the augmentation will be of great help in speeding up the investigation. "Your deployment will play an integral part in the possible arrest of said perpetrators. Likewise, I want you all to be on guard for your safety and security while in the area," he said during the send-off ceremony in Palo, Leyte. On April 14, seven armed men attacked a family riding a tricycle and a single motorcycle carrying a village official on a road in Barangay Victory. Three of the victims died on the spot. They were identified as Vicente Luzong, 45; Rachel Ann Luzong, 14; and Angelo Lustico, 43, motorcycle driver. Emmie Tomnob, 46, secretary of Barangay La Paz, Calbayog City, died a day after while undergoing treatment. Identified as wounded was Lailanie Dealagdon, 30, a resident of Barangay Osmeña. Two other passengers survived the attack. The two survivors told police that seven unidentified armed men wearing black shirts suddenly appeared and shot them. Rommel Francisco Marbil, said Monday he personally inspected the crime scene and asked the Samar police provincial office to speed up the investigation.
