TACLOBAN CITY – An estimated P3 million in property was destroyed and more than 120 houses were razed in a fire that hit Calbayog City, Samar before dawn on Tuesday, April 18.
Initial investigation said that the fire started from the house owned by one Mitziy Jalalon and rented by Atos Catalan in Purok 3, Barangay Carmen.
The lessee and his live-in partner were not around when the fire started in one of the rooms.
The fire reached the third alarm, prompting the Bureau of Fire Protection-Calbayog to request assistance from the fire stations of neighboring towns Santa Margarita and San Jorge.
The fire was declared under control at 4:30 a.m. and fire-out at 5:10 a.m.
Nobody was killed or injured in the fire which also affected Purok 1-A, Barangay Obrero.
Mayor Raymund Uy called on residents to help the fire victims. “One way to lend a helping hand is to donate cash or any necessary items such as blankets, toys, clothing, food, and toiletries," he said.
