Marikina LGU raises student-athletes, coaches allowances for NCR Palaro
The Marikina City local government announced on Tuesday, April 18, that it is increasing the allowances of the city's student-athletes and coaches competing in this year's Regional Palaro 2023 spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd).
The allowance increase was proposed by Marikina City 1st District Representative Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro to Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro who immediately approved the move, earning praise and gratitude from the city’s athletes and coaches.
According to her, the city increased the allowances of students and teachers because they understand how difficult it will be for them to represent Marikina in the National Capital Region (NCR) Palaro and give their all throughout the competition.
Cong. Teodoro said that the meal allowance was raised from P300 to P500 per day for five days.
“Ang meal allowance for athletes, coaches ay P2,500. Mula P300 naging P500 kaya P2,500 na (The meal allowance for athletes and coaches is now P2,500. From P300, it now becomes 500 for a total of P2,500). Transportation allowance would be P2,500 also. Training allowance is P3,500 for a total of P8,500," Cong. Maan said.
“Alam ko tayong lahat gustong manalo. Iyon naman ang dahilan kung bakit tayo sumali. Pero minsan hindi lang sa pagkapanalo ang sukatan ng kagalingan. Iyong natamo ninyong karanasan, isang malaking panalo na rin iyan (I know that all of us wants to win. That's the reason why we joined. But sometimes, being good in something isn't just measured by winning. Having to experience something is already a big victory for everyone)," she added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Marcy also announced that over and above the P8,500, an additional of P5,000 will be given to student-athletes representing Marikina in the said competition.
The mayor expressed his gratitude and respect to all the athletes of the city as he saluted them for their unwavering dedication and great discipline.
“Saludo ako, bilib ako sa mga atleta na kasama natin ngayon. Mabuti at magandang halimbawa kayo sa ating mga kaeskwela, sa ating mga kaibigan. Sa disiplina natin sa sarili, sa tamang paggamit ng ating oras, tamang pangangalaga sa ating katauhan (I salute all the athletes that are here with us today. You all serve as good examples to your schoolmates and friends through your discipline to yourselves, the correct way of using time, and taking proper care of your personality)," Teodoro proudly said.
“Iyong pag-aaral, pangunahin. Iyong sports napakahalaga sapagkat it complements our well-being. As we radiate it, nakakatulong din tayo. Iyong good vibes sa sports (Always make your studies as your top priority. Sports is also essential because it complements our well-being. As we radiate it, we also help bring good vibes through sports)," the mayor stressed.
