CEBU CITY – At least 49 vehicles were impounded for various violations in a two-day checkpoint in random areas in Cebu conducted by the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7).
On Friday, April 14, nine motorcycles and nine four-wheel vehicles were seized for impounding while 145 electronic Temporary Operator's Permits (e-TOPs) were issued during a random checkpoint at the South Road Properties in Talisay City, Cebu.
On Sunday, April 16, another random checkpoint was conducted in Barangay Busay, Cebu City where 31 motorcycles were seized for impounding and 78 e-TOPs were issued.
Victor Caindec, regional director of the LTO-7, said most of the violations discovered during the checkpoints were driving with expired licenses, expired registrations, mufflers exceeding the allowed decibels, and/or defective or missing equipment/parts.
Caindec described the operation as an "endurance weekend.”
"We are not allowed to rest on weekends because you might get mad that we are not working,” Caindec said.
Common causes for the issuance of e-TOPs were for non-wearing of seatbelts and/or overloading, Caindec said.
