GOSSIP GIRL: Kim Mingue teary-eyed during fan meet in Manila
Kim MIngue and author Giselle Sanchez
I was fortunate enough to be the host of Korean actor Kim Mingue’s fan meet last Friday. Secretary Cha from Netflix’s Business Proposal was a hit with his Pinoy fans. The SVIP seats were priced at P11,000 but all were sold out, practically all the seats were taken except for a few that you can count with your fingers. Filipino producer Rise Media must have had bonuses for their staff after the concert. Where is my bonus Rise Media? Just kidding. To be up close and personal with Mingue was already a bonus for me. Maybe some Ever Bilena makeup would be great as well. There was a script written for us but most of the time Mingue and I went off script, and that was when he was at his most comfortable. That is why I know that his answer was genuine and not scripted when I asked if he was crying because I saw him teary-eyed. Then he started talking in long Korean sentences and I was so touched when the translator said, "First of all, I hope that like the title of this fan meeting, I hope you all had a heavenly moment. And as an actor, I try my best to give my fans a heartwarming moment, but in reality, my fans give it more to me. So I am thankful. I promise that in the future I will work hard on my projects, and someday I will return back to the Philippines. Mahal ko kayong lahat! Salamat!''
Kim Mingue (pronounced Kim Mink-Yu) was really touched by the love of his fans, they were screaming, clapping, laughing and giving him his favorite Lego gifts. One fan who was able to act a scene in the actors new series in Viu Philippines streaming platform, Heavenly Idol, even studied Korean just so she could conversate with him. In fairness to Rise Media, they really prepared for the show. It was not an ordinary fan meet. First, they got the hosting services of a comedienne (me) instead of the usual hostesses of a fan meet. According to Rise Media, they wanted to bring out the “kid” in Mingue and just enjoy his fan meet like he was playing and not working. I was also told that Mingue is extremely shy so my job was to bring out his fun side. It was difficult at first. The Heavenly Idol is like a diesel engine, he needs to be warmed up first. In our first interview, his voice was so low and so quaint, I was thankful that there was an interpreter. Then when we started doing the acting games, he started warming up. When we got to the Tagalog classes where I had to teach him Tagalog he was so game that whenever he couldn’t get the phrase, he would request me to teach it to him again and again until he got it. Then we would hi-five once he gets the phrase. Yes, we high-fived during the time he was able to recite the phrase, “Pogi ba ako?” with feelings! It was indeed a "Heavenly Moment" for all the fans to be with Mingue. Before I left the stage, I told him that when he comes back in Manila, I hope he will still remember Noona Giselle (That’s Ate Giselle for guys, if youre a girl you will have to call me Eonni Giselle- pronounced Uni Giselle).
