Dela Rosa angry over allegations that he's a 'Teves lapdog'
Senator Ronald ‘’Bato’’ dela Rosa (Senate PRIB)
Senator Ronald ‘’Bato’’ dela Rosa on Tuesday, April 18 angrily denied allegations circulating on social media, particularly in Negros Oriental, that he is a lapdog of Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr. ‘’So ‘yun po ang aking disclaimer (This is my disclaimer). Hindi po ako nababayaran, hindi po ako naging tuta, at hindi po ako related sa mga Teves (So for full disclosure purposes, I cannot be paid, I am not a lapdog and I am not related to the Teveses). Maraming salamat (thank you),’’ a visibly irked Dela Rosa said at the start of the second day of the public hearings of his Senate Public Order and Dangerous Drugs committee. The hearing is focused on the March 4, 2023 broad-daylight assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. Teves, who is out of the country, has been tagged as the mastermind of the killing. Dela Rosa said he cannot be paid off by Teves notwithstanding how rich he may be, or by someone else. On Monday, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla told the Dela Rosa panel that government prosecutors have summoned Teves to give his side on the Degamo killing. Remulla stressed that there is still no arrest warrant for Teves. Dela Rosa denied that the aunt of her wife to a Teves residing in Dumaguete City is related to the Teveses of Bayawan City, which is located 200 kilometers from Dumaguete City. He said his wife’s aunt is related to the Teveses, who are of Spanish lineage and are descendants of Serafin Teves. The family of Congressman Arnolfo Teves Jr., on the other hand, is related to Herminio Teves. They are based in Bayawan City. Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva agreed with these pronouncements and said that nobody could bribe Dela Rosa. ‘’I just would like to point out and also spread into the records my sincerest thanks and great respect to your honor as the chairperson of this committee. I for one is a living testimony of what he stated,’’ Villanueva said. ‘’I’d like to again to put my full support to the leadership to the chairperson of this committee and I was a living testimony as well when the good chairman mentioned several times and I can no longer count he mentioned we have to make sure this hearing would be impartial and everyone should be heard. So I’d like to out that on record,’’ he added. Degamo’s widow, Pamplona (Negros Oriental) Mayor Janice Degamo said: ‘’In line with what Senator Joel Villanueva has said and Senator JV Ejercito has said, allow me also to express, kami, the aggrieved party also believe in your capacity to be fair and not to be biased in holding this Senate inquiry po.’’ She said that she and other victims of the Degamo assassination are ‘’appreciative of the work that you do as the chairperson of this committee po helping us to seek justice and legislative change for our province so that we will no longer see violence and cruelty to proliferate in our province po".
