Ookla unveils top performers for Q1 in global internet connectivity and consistency

In the Philippines, Smart is the fastest network and Globe is the most consistent

The "fastest median download" is the median value of download speeds recorded across multiple tests for a specific internet service provider (ISP), mobile carrier, or device. It is a measure of the typical download speed that users can expect to experience from the provider or device in question. The median is calculated by arranging all the recorded download speeds in ascending order and then identifying the median value. If there is an even number of tests, the median is calculated by taking the average of the two middle values. Using the median rather than the average (mean) helps to minimize the impact of outlier values or extreme cases on the overall assessment of the download speeds. In terms of consistency, Globe had the highest score in the country for Q1 2023, with 83.4%, followed by Smart with 81.5%, and then DITO with 75.1%. "Consistency" refers to the percentage of tests that meet or exceed certain minimum performance thresholds for download and upload speeds. This metric indicates how often users can expect to achieve a specific level of performance from their internet service provider (ISP) or mobile carrier. An analysis of performance on some of the fastest phones in the Philippines found no statistical winner during Q1 2023. However, Apple devices had the fastest median download speed in the country, clocking in at 47.99 Mbps. In comparison, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and Infinix devices had median download speeds of 31.48 Mbps, 28.59 Mbps, 18.75 Mbps, and 17.19 Mbps, respectively. As for the Philippines' median country speeds in March 2023, mobile internet ranked 79th, with a download speed of 25.63 Mbps, an upload speed of 6.39 Mbps, and a latency of 23 ms. Meanwhile, fixed broadband ranked 41st, with download and upload speeds of 90.57 Mbps and 89.46 Mbps, respectively, and a latency of 6 ms.
