'Miss ko na mga ibon ko': Teves will return to PH if...

Controversial Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr. has mentioned a scenario as well as a condition for him to come back home to the Philippines. Teves, who is tagged as the mastermind behind the broad-daylight assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo last March 4, was asked in press briefing Monday, April 17 if he still planned on returning to the Philippines. "Of course, definitely. When I feel safe, I will go home," he said. "Sa totoo lang namimiss ko na mga ibon ko eh (Actually I've been missing my pet birds)," added the Visayas solon. "The threat to my life is true. Di ko alam bakit ko kailangan pumunta diyan (I don't know why I have to go there)," said Teves, who left for the United States (US) last Feb. 28. When asked whether or not he thought President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s personal assurances of his safety in the country weren't enough, Teves turned more serious and asked a question of his own. "Bakit hindi nila nasiguro yung kaligtsadan ni Degamo? Kaalyado nila yon, di ba? (Why weren't they able to assure Degamo’s safety? He was their ally, right?)" he said. "If they can answer that question I'll go home," Teves said. Teves has highlighted in past social media postings the failure of the "numerous" security personnel, which he claimed included army members, to save protect the life of the Negros Oriental governor. Degamo was gunned down outside his own home in Pamplona town.
"Who's gonna watch over me? Army and police?...Sino nagbantay kay Degamo? Army at police di ba? Nasaan na yung tao ngayon? Nakalibing (Who watched over Degamo? Army and police right? Where is he now? Buried)," Teves said. "An assurance is an assurance, but alam ko kung ano yung totoong safe at ano yung hindi. Bat naman ako hindi uuwi, di ba? Sino naman ayaw umuwi. OFW (Overseas Filipino workers) nga gusting umuwi eh (I know what is truly being safe and not being safe. Why would I not want to come home? Who wouldn't want to come home? Even OFWs want to come home)," he added.
