Manila Mayor Sheila "Honey" Lacuna- Pangan said that the local government is mulling the reimposition of the mandatory use of face masks following the reported increase in Covid-19 cases in the city.
The mayor presented the vaccination update and new Covid-19 cases logged in her social media address, The Capital Report, last Saturday, April 15.
"Biglaan ang pagtaas ng mga kaso ng Covid dito sa ating lungsod. Ibig sabihin po, lahat ng mga institution or centers or mga hospitals sa kalakhang Maynila na nagsasagawa ng swab test, inipon po natin yan at tayo po ay nakapagtala ng panibagong 19 kaso ngayong araw pa lang po ito (There is a sudden increase in Covid cases in our city. That means, all swab test results from the institutions or centers or hospitals in Manila were collected, which recorded another 19 cases for today)," she said.
She said the city has been recording a significant increase in Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks.
As of April 17, a total of 85 active cases from the city districts were recorded.
Only the districts of Binondo, Port Area, San Miguel, and Sta. Ana did not record active cases.
Lacuna announced that the vaccination of second booster shots will be available to the general public pursuant to the new order released by the Department of Health (DOH).
She reminded everyone to take advantage of the free Covid-19 vaccines and boosters in all health centers in the city.
The city government said it will continue to observe the Covid-19 data closely in the next weeks to evaluate if it will be necessary to reimpose the use of face masks indoors and outdoors.
