Barangay Ginebra’s tough Game 4 loss not only denied the defending champion a 3-1 series lead but also became a huge spoiler to Christian Standhardinger’s special night.

The 6-foot-8 Kings center was all happy and blissful after being awarded as the Best Player of the Conference before the start of Game 4 but only to be disappointed after being on the bad end of a 116-104 beating at the hands of the TNT Tropang Giga hours after. “It’s obviously very tough on a night like this when you are losing. Would like to have that victory today but sometimes you can’t have everything you want,” said Standhardinger as he and the Kings got torched by the Tropang Giga with 21 triples. The award’s curse, infamously believed to jinx its winner in his first game after winning it, seemed to have also worked on Standhardinger as, after averaging 20.33 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists during the first three games, could only muster 10 points, three rebounds although he had nine assists in the Game 4 loss. “Scottie couldn’t do it either,” Standhardinger jested referring to Thompson who also suffered the same jinx when Ginebra also lost in the Game 4 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after the Kings’ court general won the BPC award. Turning serious though, Standhadinger said it was tough to celebrate the award especially how badly he wanted to win the game as well. “It's tough. I feel very honored. There’s so much appreciation but man, we all wanted that win. It's just tough to lose like this. We just have to bounce back now and figure it out but it's tough to lose like this on a night like this,” rued the Fil-German big man. Still, it was an accomplishment for Standhardinger who only became the fourth player in the PBA to have won the award with two different franchises, joining Willie Miller, Eric Menk and Calvin Abueva. He first won the award back in 2020 when he was still with the NorthPort Batang Pier. Standhardinger said the award was a little bit different from the previous one, especially after finding his role in an already loaded team like Ginebra. “It’s different because you are trying to involve yourself in a team with so many great players and I don’t think that I would have got this if Japeth is playing because obviously we would share minutes and statistically everything would go down,” explained Standhardinger who also deflected the credit for the award to his teammates. “Obviously I feel honored. I don't think I could have done it without my teammates. I truly appreciate it,” he said.
