9 days left: SIM Registration 41.32% done — DICT

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) bared that the latest SIM Registration tally has breached 69 million, but this is only equivalent to about 41.32 percent of the existing cards across the archipelago.

Data issued by the DICT showed that a total of 69,828,115 users have registered their SIM cards as of Friday, April 14. This, however, is only 41.32 percent of the nearly 170 million units nationwide.

Smart Communications Inc. has the highest tally of registrants at 34,720,770. It was followed by Globe Telecom Inc. with 29,967,532 and Dito Telecommunity with 5,139,813 registrants so far.

Public telecommunication entities recently appealed for a SIM registration extension, but the DICT has yet to issue a statement regarding this matter. The mandatory registration will still end as scheduled on April 26.

Pursuant to Republic Act No. 11934, otherwise known as the SIM Registration Act, all unregistered cards after the aforementioned registration deadline will automatically get deactivated.
