Pasig City to host inter-regional sustainability forum for the youth

Pasig City will host the kickoff program of the “Youth for Sustainability: Regional Youth Assemblies for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” forum in Metro Manila on April 22.

The forum, organized by youth-led media organization ScienceKonek, will be held from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Banquet Hall of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP).

Recognizing Pasig City as a “model city for sustainability,” the organization partnered with the local government, particularly the City Council through the Office of City Councilor Quin Cruz, for the event.

It’s other advocacy partners include youth groups such as the Saint Louis University (SLU) Mining Engineering Society in Baguio City, the Association of Geology Students – University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) in Davao City, Philippine of Mining Engineers (PSEM) - Visayas Student Chapter, the Online SDG Youth Action Forum, and the National Youth for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management - Central among others.

According to ScienceKonek, the forum is the beginning of a “series of regional assemblies aimed to empower the Filipino youth to bring their sustainability ideas to the next level.”

The event will be a venue for collaboration opportunities with like-minded sustainability advocates and youth leaders. Participants will be able to brainstorm ideas for programs, projects, and activities, as well as find potential funding sources.

Guest speakers from the government, affiliated industries, and the youth will be featured to inform delegates of the socio-environmental situations in the country’s regions, the roles of industries in sustainable development, and the achievements of youth environmental groups.

After the gathering in Pasig, regional assemblies will also be held in Baguio City on April 29, Davao City on May 6, and Cebu City on May 13.

Admission to the forum is free and open to all senior high school and college students.
