, Kim Young-kwang and Lee Sung-kyung discussed their roles and the drama.

Working with director Lee Kwangyoung

Kim Young-kwang said it was comfortable working with Lee Kwangyoung as director of the drama.  “She emphasized the actors’ emotions and placed a lot of trust and freedom on all of us so it was very comfortable working with her.  This is the second time that Kim Young-kwang worked with the director “so it’s a little bit more meaningful. So I had a great time.”  Korean actress Lee Sung-kyung (Disney+)
Lee Sung-kyung said, “Working on the series, when were trying to portray the character, the focus is not so much about on how they appear to be but being how emphatically how they felt and the emotions that we wanted to portray. And in that sense, Director Lee did an amazing job in really resonating and relating all of the emotions that we were trying to convey as the characters.”  “And it was very detailed too. The way we breathe, the simple glances, all the emotions that we tried to capture through that were captured by the director,” she said.  About the viewers’ response to the drama, Kim Young-kwang said, “I did not expect this response. I’m very grateful. Watching the characters’ story between Woo-joo and Dongjin, I tried my best to convey the lines of these characters as best as possible, and really tried to show and tell the story of the people who may be living different lives but still very genuine to their life. So I tried my best to show that.”

Memorable scenes

When asked about a particular scene in “Call It Love” that is memorable, Lee Sung-kyung said, “For me the scene where, in front of a convenience store, Woo-joon tells Dongjin not to like her or not to develop any further feelings for her.” “Because in a way, that line is confessing her feelings to Dongjin. And in the scene, Woo-joo is drunk. I remember it was as if I was actually drunk, trying to confess my true feelings towards Dongjin because I felt my heart continued to ache even after filming the scene. That scene is quite memorable for me because of that,” she revealed.  Korean actor Kim Young-kwang (Disney+)
“If I had to choose just one, there is a scene when they are sharing noodles and Dongjin, a lot of his frustrations had shown and have been revealed. And in that scene, Woo-joo comforts him. That scene is very memorable,” said  Kim Young-kwang.  In the drama, Woo-joo and Dongjin met because they were driven by revenge. The stars were asked which one they thought was easier: falling helplessly in love with one another or harboring feelings of revenge.  “For me, being in love is much more difficult, I would say. Because when it comes to love, not everything goes your way. It’s not like you can fall in love just because you want to. There are so many difficulties that you have to break through when you are in love, I think,” she said.  She added, “As for revenge, you have the choice of not taking revenge. But if I have to, I would still say it is better and easier because it is up to me. I have more control of what I decide to do. I think if I have to take revenge on someone, I would decide not to think about the other person. Just go on living my life as happily as possible.”

Criteria in choosing projects

Kim Young-kwang and Lee Sung-kyung have set their own standards when choosing acting projects.  "I have to be drawn to the character, I have to be drawn to the story so that it makes me feel I want to do this. Also stories that resonate with me. I think I'm mostly drawn to stories where you look into the way people live, their actual lives. At the end of the day, I want my fans to be happy with what I do and I want to bring them joy,” said Lee Sung-kyung.  Kim Young-kwang said, “My criteria when I look at scripts also change depending on the case. But I think, usually, when I'm reading a script, I like to imagine myself portraying that particular character. The character and I would be a good fit. I also try to see if it's going to be entertaining, is it going to be something that people want to watch?”  Lee Kwangyoung previously said Kim Young-kwang was very good in portraying Dongjin’s loneliness in the drama.  “Thanks to the director, we were able to create the character Dongjin in the most befitting way possible,” he said.  The director also said Lee Sung-kyung exceeded her expectations in her portrayal of Woo-joo in “Call It Love.”  “I really don’t know what to say to that. I did my best in trying to think about the character Woo-joo, thinking about what her life must have been like, how she was raised, what it was like for her to grow up. I tried not to really create a character that seemed forced or made up but try to bring to life a character that would seem as convincing and realistic as possible. But then again I think it’s all thanks to the director,” she said.  “Call It Love” is available on Disney+.
