The name of the Grade 2 pupil was withheld. Police Capt. Gina Fernandez, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victim approached his teacher to ask for assistance when something got stuck inside his mouth. He could not speak, and he turned bluish, according to Fernandez. The victim was taken to a hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. Fernandez said they could not confirm the cause of the victim’s choking, because his family opted not to subject him to an X-ray. She, however, said that some wrappers of chocolate candy were seen inside the victim’s bag, leading them to suspect that it was the candy that choked the victim.
