CABADBARAN CITY, Agusan del Norte – Seventeen former New People’s Army (NPA) fighters from the Caraga region have received houses from the Enhanced Local Comprehensive Local Integration program for rebel returnees.

Recipients thanked the government for providing them homes in a housing project this city. "I am grateful to the government agencies that helped to keep this project going and I am very grateful because we are the first ones to avail and receive this housing project,” a recipient said. “I cannot compare the happiness that I am feeling right now because I am the owner of this house beginning today,” another recipient said. “We can't afford the house but we are now here accepting the house that was given to us by the government. In the past, we are facing a crisis where we can't be with our family, hungry, and we are always afraid of the government and now I am now a witness to the promise of the government that has been fulfilled, that we will live with a complete family in our house,” a third recipient added. They received certificates of award and keys to their houses in a turnover ceremony on Thursday, April 13. The project was funded by the National Housing Authority (NHA) with the assistance of Agusan del Norte Rep. Dale Corvera and the provincial government of Agusan del Norte. E-CLIP aims to help and secure members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and Militia ng Bayan (MB) who have returned to the fold of law, the 29th IB Civil Military Operations (CMO) office said. The command group of the Army 29th Infantry (Matatag) Battalion (IB), Corvera, the provincial government of Agusan del Norte under Gov. Maria Angelica Rosedell M. Amante, the city government of Cabadbaran City headed by Mayor Judy Chin-Amante, the NHA led by Regional Manager Engr. Erasme G. Madlos, and other local government officials witnessed the turnover. Lt. Col Cresencio C. Gargar, 29th IB commanding officer, reminded the recipients to take good care of their houses. “The government has already shown us, they gave us this housing project and livelihood. But we still have those who are still in the mountains, and I hope that we can help them return to the right path,” the 29th IB commander said. “You don’t have to worry, our brothers and sisters; we will not stop this because this is the symbol that the government is sincere with its promise to help you return to the fold of the law,” Corvera also said.
