Catholic Church observes Divine Mercy Sunday on April 16
The Roman Catholic Church will observe Divine Mercy Sunday on April 16 to highlight God’s infinite love and mercy towards the human race.

Divine Mercy Sunday is a feast that was established by Saint Pope John Paul II on April 30, 2000, during the canonization of Polish nun St. Faustina Kowalska, the Apostle of the Divine Mercy. The observance focuses on her diary, which Jesus requested her to write in the 1930s “for mankind to know about His great mercy and His promise of complete forgiveness of sins on Divine Mercy Sunday.” The faithful are invited to take part in the activities at the National Shrine and Parish of Divine Mercy Philippines in Marilao, Bulacan. Novena masses were offered from April 7 to 15. Kalookan Bishop Emeritus Deogracias Iniguez will lead the pre-feast day mass on April 15, Saturday, at 6 p.m. which will be followed by a solemn procession. On April 16, Divine Mercy Sunday, church bells will be rung at 3 a.m. to be followed by the praying of the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy. Holy masses will be celebrated at 4 a.m., 5 a.m., 6 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. Bishop Iniguez will preside over the concelebrated mass at noon while Malolos Bishop Dennis Villarojo will celebrate the mass at 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos, Episcopal Coordinator of Divine Mercy Philippines and Asia, is inviting the faithful to join the Luzon Apostolic Congress on Mercy on April 20 to 21 at the Malolos Convention Center in Bulacan. Led by the Diocese of Malolos, Church leaders who are expected to attend the gathering aside from Bishop Santos include Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown, Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula, and Bishop Villarojo.
