Miles Ocampo explains why she had to undergo emergency thyroidectomy

Former child star Miles Ocampo recently underwent surgery. The 25-year-old talked about it on "Magandang Buhay," relating how she had to do so following several scary episodes. She explained, "Yung palagi akong hapong-hapo. Tapos yung feeling na parang laging may nakasakal sa akin. Ta's hingalin po ako. Nilalamig ako bigla o bigla akong naiinitan...so sabi ko: 'Parang may something na.' So nagpa-blood test ako, ganyan..." Her doctors told her it has something to do with her thyroid. "At that time, hindi siya hypo, hindi rin siya hyper. So next step was ultrasound. After that biopsy na," Miles continued. It was then that they found out she has papillary thyroid carcinoma. Her doctors advised her to undergo surgery. The young star vividly recalled how she was told it was already "life-threatening." "Kung hindi ko siya naagapan, may chance na mas kumalat siya," she related. She added, "Meron pa akong last procedure na gagawin, after that, maintenance na lang for life."
Miles also detailed her experience on Instagram. She admitted she used to be scared of hospitals. "But since late last year I haven’t felt my normal self. Waking up in the middle of the night cause I can’t breathe, I get tired so easily, sooooo frustrated with my weight gain, para akong palaging hapong-hapo and sinasakal.. then finally I had the courage to have it checked.. for someone who’s afraid of needles I feel like it was an endless blood tests, ultrasound to biopsy, then the decision to remove it ASAP.. we found out it was Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. I had to undergo Thyroidectomy surgery to remove my thyroid glands. It all happened in an instant," she said. Miles then expressed her gratitude to everyone who’s been part of her journey. She also thanked her boyfriend, actor Elijah Canlas. "I couldn’t have done any of this without you," she told him. "Thank you for encouraging me to face my fears with doctors and hospital, to prioritize myself and to love myself. Thank you for being my strongest support." Miles ended her post: "A month after my operation, here I am embracing my journey and sharing it to all of you. I’ve been receiving messages from you guys who has the same situation with me that you’re inspired with what I went through, but sharing your experiences too and reading your comments inspired me too.
