Dengue cases reach 100k since January, DOH says

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 102,619 dengue cases since January, it said on Monday, Aug. 15.

According to DOH, this was from January 1 to July 30. The agency said that the cases this year are 131 percent higher compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021 at 44,361.

Most of the dengue cases were reported from Region III at 18,664 or 18 percent; Region VII at 10,034 or 10 percent and the National Capital Region at 8,870 or 9 percent.

Meanwhile, in the recent period from July 3 to July 30 a total of 23,414 cases were recorded. The regions with the highest number of cases were Region III at 5,838 or 25 percent; NCR at 2,689 or 11 percent and CALABARZON at 2,369 or 10 percent.

DOH also stated that 9 out of 17 regions Regions II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, VI, VII, IX, CAR, and NCR exceeded the epidemic threshold in the past four weeks from July 3 to July 30. It added that MIMAROPA, and Region VI showed a sustained increasing trend in the same period.

Nationally, there were 368 deaths reported with a case fatality rate at 0.4 percent. These deaths were reported in January with 35; February with 31; March with 38; April with 46; May with 64; June with 74; and July with 80.
