Dengue cases at 90k plus since January - DOH

The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded a total of 92,343 dengue cases since January, it said on Monday Aug. 8.

This was from January 1 to July 23. According to DOH, cases this year are 118 percent higher compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021 which was a t 42,294.

Most dengue cases were reported from Region III at 15,951 or 17 percent; Region VII at 9,429, or 10 percent and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 7,962 or 9 percent.

On the other hand, from the recent period from June 26 to July 23, the DOH recorded 21,566 cases. The regions with the highest number of cases were Region III with 5,186 or 24 percent; NCR with 2,374 or 11 percent; and CALABARZON with 2,178 or 10 percent.

DOH stated that nine out of 17 regions exceeded the epidemic threshold in the past four weeks from June 26 to July 23 which includes MIMAROPA, and NCR showing a sustained increasing trend from June 26 to July 23.

Nationally, there were 344 deaths reported with a case fatality rate of 0.4 percent. These deaths were reported in January with 36; February with 31; March with 39; April with 46; May with 63; June with 73; and July with 56.

DOH recently said that hospitals have sufficient bed capacity to manage dengue patients amid the rising number of cases in the country.
