House Speaker Martin Romualdez (Speaker’s office)
Be good lawyers and serve the poor. This was the simple, yet poignant message that House Speaker Martin Romualdez imparted to the 3,992 passers of the 2022 Bar examinations on Friday, April 14. Romualdez said these new lawyers should handle and prosecute cases without fear or favor. “You should be good lawyers by serving the poor and the underprivileged. Ensure that justice is served without fear or favor," said Romualdez, who represents Leyte's 1st district in the House of Representatives. "Be a catalyst for change and uphold the standards of public service excellence in the practice of our noble profession," he added. Romualdez is himself a lawyer, an alumnus of the University of the Philippines (UP)-College of Law. He is the president of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa). He said the new entrants to the law profession should help improve the judicial system by representing those who cannot afford legal services. “They should contribute to the delivery of fair, impartial and speedy justice,” Romualdez concluded.
