Party-list solon credits Speaker's 'involved leadership' for high survey ratings
House Speaker Martin Romualdez (Speaker’s office)
"Involved leadership." This, according to Ako Bisaya Party List Rep. Sonny Lagon, is how House Speaker Martin Romualdez runs the lower chamber in the current 19th Congress. And this has resulted in high survey ratings for the House of Representatives and Romualdez so far. “And we, as members [of the House], emulate the diligence we see in our leaders. This is truly genuine leadership by example," Lagon said in a statement Thursday, April 13. "What we have is an ‘involved leadership’ that allows House leaders and members a free rein on their respective duties and responsibilities without the need for micromanagement,” noted Lagon, who is a vice chairman of the House Committees on Ways and Means and on Games and Amusement. In the recent Pulse Asia survey conducted from March 15 to 19, Romualdez obtained a high approval rating of 51 percent, tying with Senate President Migz Zubiri. In that same survey, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte also received high approval ratings, at 78 percent and 83 percent, respectively. Also in last December's Social Weather Stations (SWS) Fourth Quarter 2022 survey, the House of Representatives under the leadership of Romualdez garnered a high net satisfaction rating of +56, ranked as “very good.” Referring to Romualdez, Lagon said: "No one among the members of House can deny his energetic way of conducting business in the chamber, especially when it comes to passing important pieces of legislation. "And I firmly believe that the Filipino people see that in Speaker Martin," said the supermajority solon. “The survey results are a recognition of our hard work in the lower house, but they are really not our main motivation. As Speaker Martin always says, this is our mandate and contribution to nation-building, to enact laws that will benefit the nation and the Filipino people,” Lagon further said.
