By Jaleen Ramos
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna on Wednesday, April 12, branded as fake news the circulating reports on social media of an alleged serial killer stalking the barangays of Balut, Tondo in Manila.
In a press conference, the Manila Police District presented the gunman in the widely publicized Tondo "Serial Killing" case.
Two consecutive shooting incidents in the area have alarmed residents of Balut, Tondo. Last April 9, a man was shot and killed in Barangay 138, and another man in Barangay 141 on April 10.
Police Lt. Col. Rosalino Ibay Jr. said the suspect, identified Jay-Jay Martelino alias "Pusod,” was arrested by the Raxabago Police Station at 11:30 a.m. on the same day. He said the other gunman is still at-large but has already been identified by the police.

Meanwhile, Joel Justiniani alias "Joel Blandy" was labeled innocent by witnesses after being tagged as a serial killer in a photo circulating on social media.
"Fake news po 'yun. Hindi po totoo ang kumakalat na siya ang ugat ng mga pagpatay at pamamaril sa Balut, Tondo. Hindi po si Blandy 'yun (That's fake news. It is not true that he is the root cause of the killings and shootings in Balut, Tondo. That's not Blandy),” said Lacuna.
In the initial investigation by the police, it appeared that the crime is related to a gang war.
Lacuna reminded the people to always check the veracity of online postings and advised them to be on the lookout for fake news.
The local chief executive also assured the public that police visibility will continue in the city.
“Sa atin pong mga kababayan, lalo na sa Balut, Tondo, makakasiguro po kayo na pananatilihin po namin na maayos at payapa ang ating lugar (To our countrymen, especially in Balut, Tondo, you can be assured that we will keep our place orderly and peaceful).”
