Zubiri, Romualdez, Gesmundo see 'significant changes' in their performance ratings — Pulse Asia
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo experienced “significant changes” in their respective performance ratings between November 2022 and March 2023, based on the Pulse Asia survey results released on Wednesday, April 12.
Zubiri and Romualdez both got 51 percent approval rating.
However, Zubiri’s rating was lower by four percentage points from 55 percent in November 2022, while Romualdez’s score was higher by three points from 48 percent in November 2022.
Gesmundo registered the most significant change in approval rating from 27 percent in November 2022 to 43 percent in March 2023.
Senate President Zubiri posted majority approval figures in Metro Manila (54 percent), Visayas (70 percent), Mindanao (73 percent), and Class E (69 percent).
In the rest of Luzon, indecision is the predominant sentiment toward Zubiri’s work (53 percent).
“Half of those in Class ABC (50 percent) cannot say if they approve or disapprove of the Senate President’s performance while a similar percentage of those in Class D (50 percent) have a positive assessment of his work,” Pulse Asia pointed out.
Romualdez receives higher approval ratings in Metro Manila, Visayas
Pulse Asia said the House Speaker enjoyed improvements in his approval figures in Metro Manila and the Visayas (both at +12 percentage points) while his indecision score dropped in Mindanao (-12 percentage points). Most of the respondents from Metro Manila (57 percent), the Visayas (77 percent), Mindanao (58 percent), and those in Class E (66 percent) are appreciative of the work done by Romualdez. Half of those in Class D (50 percent) share this assessment, Pulse Asia added. However, it noted that “near to bare majorities” in the rest of Luzon (48 percent) and Class ABC (51 percent) are unable to say if they approve or disapprove of the overall job performance of Romualdez.Gesmundo gain approval of more Filipinos
According to Pulse Asia, Gesmundo’s approval ratings went up not only at the national level (+16 percentage points), from 27 percent to 43 percent, but also in Metro Manila (+17 percentage points), the rest of Luzon (+19 percentage points), Mindanao (+12 percentage points), and Class D (+18 percentage points). At the same time, indecision toward his performance became less pronounced in the Philippines as a whole (-13 percentage points) and in the Visayas (-12 percentage points), Mindanao (-22 percentage points), and Class D (-13 percentage points). Pulse Asia said that about the same approval and indecision ratings are registered by Gesmundo in Metro Manila (47 percent versus 42 percent), the rest of Luzon (38 percent versus 48 percent), the Visayas (40 percent versus 34 percent), Class D (45 percent versus 41 percent), and Class E (42 percent versus 38 percent).Zubiri, Gesmundo post ‘notable movements’ in their trust ratings
During the period November 2022 to March 2023, Pulse Asia said only Zubiri and Gesmundo experienced “notable movements” in their respective trustworthiness ratings. “The national trust rating of Senate President Zubiri declines (-6 percentage points) while his indecision figure in Class D goes up (+8 percentage points). Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Chief Justice registers changes in his overall trust and indecision ratings (+11 and -9 percentage points, respectively) as well as in his trust scores in the rest of Luzon and Class D (+19 and +12 percentage points, respectively) and his indecision ratings in the rest of Luzon (-12 percentage points), Class ABC (-21 percentage points), and Class D (-7 percentage points),” it pointed out. According to Pulse Asia, the same trust and indecision figures were registered by Zubiri (48 percent versus 43 percent) and Romualdez (44 percent versus 43 percent). Meanwhile, a “big plurality” of Filipino adults (45 percent) could not say if they trust or distrust Gesmundo. “Trust is the prevailing sentiment toward Senate President Zubiri in the Visayas (65 percent), Mindanao (74 percent), and Class E (67 percent), while most of those in the rest of Luzon (60 percent) are undecided on the matter of trusting or distrusting him,” Pulse Asia said. “About the same percentages of Metro Manilans and those belonging to either Class ABC or Class D either trust the lawmaker (44 percent to 48 percent) or are ambivalent regarding his trustworthiness (42 percent to 47 percent),” it added.Romualdez posts high trust rating in Visayas
Meanwhile, Pulse Asia said most Visayans (70 percent), Mindanawons (51%), and those in Class E (57 percent) expressed trust in Romualdez. Only a small majority in the rest of Luzon (52 percent) are undecided regarding his trustworthiness. “Nearly or exactly the same percentages of Metro Manilans and those in either Class ABC or D are either inclined to trust the House Speaker (35 percent to 43 percent) or are unable to say if they trust or distrust him (43 percent to 50 percent),” Pulse Asia said. For Gesmundo’s trustworthiness, “near to small majorities” in Metro Manila (53 percent) and Class E (48 percent) are ambivalent regarding the matter. Meanwhile, Pulse Asia said Gesmundo has “almost or exact the same trust and indecision figures” (37 percent to 44 percent versus 34 percent to 47 percent) in the other geographic areas and socio-economic groupings.
