BACOLOD CITY – The Leonardo Panaligan Command (LPC) of the New People's Army (NPA)-Central Negros Guerrilla Front has claimed responsibility for the killing of a farmer in Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental on Easter Sunday.
Police said the victim, 63-year-old Danilo Bedaja, left his house and went to his farm on Sunday afternoon.
His son heard gunshots and saw his father on the ground with bullet wounds.
Ka JB Regalado, LPC-NPA spokesperson, said the victim has been warned in 2016 to leave the place.
But he returned after a few years and allegedly continued his actions, according to the NPA.
Regalado said that some residents in the area had been complaining against the victim for alleged theft and land-grabbing.
He said they reached out again to the victim but he chose to continue his activities against the people.
Police have recorded a total of four insurgency-related incidents in the town this year.
