ILOILO CITY – The National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)-6 has released the five-year development plan for Western Visayas.
Juvelyn Pamonag of NEDA-6 presented the salient features of the eight-point socio-economic agenda and the highlights of the Western Visayas Regional Development Plan 2023-2028 at the recent convention in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
With the theme “Planning for a Risk-Informed Development,” the convention sought to “guide planners in mainstreaming climate change and disaster risk reduction processes into the formulation of Provincial Development and Physical Framework Plans (PDPFPs), Comprehensive Land Use Plans (CLUPs), and other local plans.”
It is for the planners of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
Pamonag highlighted the Regional Spatial Development Strategy (RSDF), which provides guidance in the formulation of the land use and physical framework plans of local government units (LGUs).
According to Pamonag, the RSDF adopts the core strategies of concentration, connectivity, and vulnerability reduction in terms of economic growth and development.
Pamonag emphasized these are important as the region is bouncing back from the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The region is banking on investments and will maximize its comparative advantages to strengthen the domestic economy to get back on track and attain socio-economic transformation by 2028,” Pamonag added.
