Jhanlo Sangiao remains focused on Farinelli even after postponement
Jhanlo Mark Sangiao insists that he’ll be 100 percent focused when he takes on Matias “El Rasta” Farinelli, even after their initial bout was postponed when the Argentinian suffered an injury.
The pair were supposed to tangle at ONE 164 in the Philippines last December. Now, the two bantamweights will finally cross paths in the opener of ONE Fight Night 9: Nong–O vs. Haggerty on April 22 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Sangiao still got to compete on the ONE 164 card, beating LA Lauron via first-round submission. And while he would’ve wanted to face the dangerous Argentinian in his backyard – that doesn’t take anything away from his hunger. “Yes, in a way [I feel at a loss]. I knew I had the advantage [against Farinelli in the Philippines] because I would’ve been in my country and the crowd would’ve been totally behind me,” Sangiao said. “But that doesn’t take away my eagerness to win and beat him this time around, just because we’re competing elsewhere. As for me, I have to push myself to take the win.” he added. If there’s one good thing that the postponement gave him, it’s the chance to familiarize himself with the bright lights of ONE Championship. The 20-year-old admitted that he was feeling nerves in his first bouts in The Home of Martial Arts, but with two quick wins under him, he’s confident that pressure won’t play a factor in this match. “I was nervous. There was pressure of course, I wasn’t used to such bright lights and attention. But as time goes by, I am getting used to it,” “Now I can come out and compete pressure free. [I’m] 100 percent I’m ready for April 22.” When he enters the ring, Sangiao is confident that he’ll be getting his third straight win at the expense of Farinelli. In fact, he believes he has the perfect foil for the Argentinian’s strengths – youth. “I think he’s a very tight fighter. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, but for me I think my explosiveness can counter that,” he said. “I don’t think he can control me because I’m stronger. I’m confident. I don’t think he can control me.”
