Gang leader, 4 cohorts die in skirmish with cops in Cotabato

TULUNAN, Cotabato – The leader of a lawless armed group and his four cohorts were killed in an encounter with the police Wednesday morning, April 12, in Barangay Dungos, this town. Brig. Gen. Jamili Macaraeg, Police Regional Office-12 director, said police were implementing warrants of arrest against Danny Cabakungan, alias “Commander Magnetic,” who was sighted in the area. Cabakungan was wanted for murder, robbery, extortion, illegal drugs, and gunrunning. Macaraeg said the suspects fired at the raiding team instead of surrendering, triggering a 30-minute gunfight which resulted into the death of the gang leader and his allies. Police recovered one improvised Barrett sniper rifle, two improvised 7.62mm rifles, one M16A1 rifle, one .45  caliber Caspian pistol with one magazine and four live ammunition, one improvised grenade launcher, three pieces 40mm high explosives, three fragmentation grenades, and two sachets containing suspected shabu.
