The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a P190 million river dike project which will protect the residents of the flood-prone barangays in Nabua, Camarines Sur.
In a report to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte said that new flood protective shields were completed along the sections of Barit River in Barangays Antipolo Young and San Jose.
“Revetment structures were built purposely for the preservation of lives and properties particularly those who dwell near the Barit River area. It will also prevent destruction in agricultural livelihood, bank collapse and harmful degradation of the riverbed, as well as closure of nearby roads,” Eduarte explained.
The completed projects in Barangay Antipolo Young and Barangay San Jose were built at the cost of P93 million and P97 million respectively.
Aside from the Camarines Sur flood control project, the DPWH Region 5 Office has also completed the access road project in Ocampo town that will provide tourists to travel more conveniently in the eco-tourism destinations in the same province.
Eduarte said that the completed project covers the construction of 2.1 kilometers of two-lane concrete road in Barangay Cagmanaba that leads to Ocampo Deer Farm in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Bamboo Farm in Hanawan and Strawberry Fields in Pinit.
“The highland area of Ocampo, considered the “Little Baguio of Bicol”, has a lot of potential in tourism, offering visitors a wide-range of activities. By improving the access road, local and international tourists will be able to easily-drive around and experience what the town has to offer,” Eduarte noted.
Implemented by the DPWH Camarines Sur Third District Engineering Office, the access road project in Ocampo was completed in the amount of P50 million and was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.
